O, America Lyrics

Music: William Joseph
Words: Brendan Graham

O, America you’re calling,
I can hear you calling me:
You are calling me to be true to thee,
True to thee… I will be.

O, America no weeping,
Let me heal your wounded heart:
I will keep you in my keeping,
Till there be… a new start.

And I will answer you, and I will take your hand,
And lead you… to the sun:
And I will stand by you…do all that I can do,
And we will be… as one.

O, America I hear you,
From your prairies to the sea,
From your mountains grand, and all through this land,
You are beautiful to me.

And… O, America you’re calling,
I can hear you calling me:
You are calling me to be true to thee,
True to thee… I will be.

And I will answer you, and I will take your hand,
And lead you… to the sun:
And I will stand by you… do all that I can do,
And we will be…as one.

O, America you’re calling…
I will ever answer thee.

  1. I saw you perform this at the Dodge Theater in Phoenix this year. Best money I ever spent. This song and your rendition of it brought tears to my eyes. By the time you were done, most of us were weeping at the beauty of the words and the sweet sound of your voices. There isn't a night that goes by when I don't thank my God for America - land of the free and home of the brave. Thank you.

  4. I have all the DVD's but haven't had opportunity to see the live Tour. From this song, "O America", it is appreciated that you are astute to see that we in this supposed "self-sustaining" nation are really on an isle unto ourselves and need all the love we can get!

I thank my Irish brethren for recognizing that and for extending a shoulder; a hand to help hold up our arms.

Your love for us is mutual! God bless you.

  7. My family has been a fan since we first saw you on our local PBS station. My Mother and I went to your first two concerts that came to the Detroit area. The third one I brought my daughter and she was in awe. was said that this year you came to the west side of Michigan U.S.A. I have every CD and DVD and I hope that O America becomes a whole CD. It is such a touching song and means alot to my family, that like many here are barely making it day to day. Thank and Blessings

  9. There was never a more breathtaking moment than to sit atop the mile high ciy of Denver at Red Rocks Ampitheatre and hear this amazing new song sung by these incredible women. It was a though the spirit of God himself enveloped us all and for a moment in time we saw a glimpse of Heaven.

  11. These are marvelous lyrics! As a lyricist myself I can only hope to come up with something this memorable and beautiful.

Throughout the tour I witnessed many a standing ovation. If an audience was reluctant I made sure one person was not. Frankly this song deserves to be performed by these artists in the nation's capitol on July 4th as well as memorial day and veterans day.

I've not felt such patriotism in over two decades and it took folks from overseas to do that. Certainly not much here in this country for me has inspired that of late.

In an era when so much of the world looks upon us with scorn it is refreshing to have a lovely tribute like this. Thank you so much.

  17. I'm an American who longs to visit Ireland again. Hearing this song makes me want to write one that says, "Thank you, Eire, for all you've given us. For the generations of loved ones you've entrusted to us, for safe-keeping, for nurturing, and for loving. We are better for the part of you that is part of us."

  18. Actually, if anyone is interested in writing the music, I just finished writing the lyrics to that very song. Three verses and a chorus.
